Welcome @ Twannberg Iron Meteorite – Hexaedrit IIG

It was 1984 when farmer Margrit Christen near Nidau, just north of the Lake of Biel, Switzerland, after ploughing found a peculiar looking stone. It was the first and still largest mass of the Twannberg Meteorite (TW1, 15.9kg).

The Twannberg Meteorite is one of only six Hexaedrit IIG iron meteorites found on earth.

By chance, Marcel Jost, a well known meteorite hunter, found a second mass on the attic of an old house. Further masses were found on a flee market and in an old collection.

In the course Professor Dr. Beda Hofman from the Museum of Natural History of Bern organized a search campaign.

I took great pride when I was invited to become a member of the search team in 2015. With the official permission of the Museum of Natural History of Bern I was able to hunt after the Twannberg Meteorite.

In the following months I was happy to find a few pieces. All finds were handed over to the Natural History Museum Bern for full documentation. Then they were divided between the Museum and the finder based on a specific key.

The hunt for the Twannberg Meteorite is over!

In the meantime, the hunt for the Twannberg Meteorite has come to a halt and we think that hardly any additional pieces will be found. At the moment I am willing to sell a few pieces. If interested, please contact me.

I will only sell meteorites that were searched and found with official permission of the Natural History Museum Bern and that were verified by Professor Hofmann. More information about the authenticity of our meteorites you will find here.

The Twannberg Meteorite in the Museum

Several Twannberg Meteorite individuals could be seen in the recently closed exhibition of the Natural History Museum Bern “Der Twannberg Eisenmeteorit IIG – Jäger des verlorenen Schatzes”, however the exhibiton’s website is still live: www.twannbergmeteorit.ch.
